Welcome to the Maine Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

President’s Message

Fall is in full swing and we are heading into the busy holiday season, but I’d like to let you know what your association has been up to—and what we’re planning for 2018!

First, thank you to those who replied to our MAND Membership Survey. Your answers will help guide the work of the MAND Board and help us plan events and activities that serve YOUR needs.

For example, planning is just beginning for our Spring Conference and annual MAND Legislative Breakfast. We are listening to your requests and aim to focus on the topics that interest you and fit into your educational goals. By the way, if you’re interested in helping to plan these events please reach out–more hands mean lighter work of course, but we also just want more of our members to get involved in our affiliate and its work. Helping to plan the conference is always a fun way to meet new people and help create a great event for all of our members.

Speaking of great events….we recently had a screening of the food documentary “Food Evolution,” in South Portland, which included a Q&A with the director afterward. What a great experience that was. We had a small audience in attendance, but what an engaged group; the director even commented on the level of questions we posed to him! Perhaps we will do another screening next fall in another part of the state.

This brings me to our plans for this year. This year we plan to work on the following:

  • Increase membership engagement through social events and webinars
  • Increase MAND’s social media presence
  • Update MAND’s website to offer a user-friendly site that is visually pleasing

The MAND Board and I look forward to working together with you—our members—to advance our goals this next year. Please join us! Reach out to any Board member via the emails listed on the Board page and tell us how you’d like to be involved.

Finally, I wish you all a joyous holiday season,

Ali Caron, MS, RD, LD

2017-2018 MAND President
